Step 1: Cut 24 diamonds from the template.

Step 2: Using the template cut diamond shapes from the fabric leaving a 0.5 cm seam allowance. Twelve of each colour.

Step 3: Lay one fabric piece, right side facing downwards and a paper diamond on top.

Step 4: With the glue stick, place a little glue on one edge of the diamond. Fold down the seam and press for 10 seconds.

Step 5: Place a little glue on the adjoining edge and fold down the seam. Press for 10 seconds.

Step 6: Place a little glue on the next adjoining edge and fold the seam. Press for 10 seconds.

Step 7: Place a little glue on the last edge and fold the seam. Press 10 seconds. Repeat process with the remaining 23 diamonds, 11 red and 12 blue.

Step 8: With right sides together, sew using whip stitch 2 diamonds together [one edge only].

Step 9: Open up diamonds, right side face down.

Step 10: Continue to sew diamonds to each other.

Step 11: Six diamonds will complete the centre colour – the sixth diamond will need to be sewn on both edges.

Step 12: Join the 6 diamonds of the second colour to form a large hexagon.

Step 13: Join 2 edges at a time.

Step 14: Continue to join the next 5 blue diamonds.

Step 15: Carefully lift the seam of one diamond.

Step 16: Remove the paper.

Step 17: Continue lifting the seam of the next diamond and removing the paper. Continue until all diamond papers have been removed.

Step 18: With the embroidery thread sew using running stitch to add decorative detail.

Step 19: Continue along until the star shape is complete.

Step 20: Ensure that when sewing running stitch, the seams on the wrong side lay flat.

Step 21: Complete the second hexagon in the reverse colours, in the way described above. Iron seams.

Step 22: With wrong sides together sew edges together using whip stitch.

Step 23: Sew the folded braid on one of the side of the hexagon
