DIFFICULTY  

 

NEEDLES

A pair of 3.25mm knitting needles.

A 3.25mm circular knitting needle.

Wool needle for sewing up.

2 stitch holders. 

 

TENSION

23 sts and 33 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 3.25mm needles.

 

BACK

Using a pair of 3.25mm needles and C1, cast on 112 (112-136-146-158-170) sts.

Knit 6 rows garter st, first row is wrong side.

7th row: K56 (62-68-73-79-85), place marker, knit to end.

 

** Beg Stripe Patt:

1st row: Using C1 knit to marker, using C2 knit to end.

 

2nd row: Using C2 purl to marker, using C1 purl to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows twice.

7th row: Using C1, knit.

8th row: Using C1 purl to marker, using C2 purl to end.

9th row: Using C2 knit to marker, using C1 knit to end.

Rep 8th and 9th rows twice.

14th row: Using C1, purl.

Last 14 rows form stripe part.

 

Beg A-line Shaping:

Keeping stripe patt correct, dec one st at each end of next row, then every 8th row until 88 (100-112-122-134-146) sts rem. **

Cont in stripe patt without shaping until work measures 40cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

 

Shape Armholes:

Keeping stripe patt correct, cast off 4 (6-8-8-10-12) sts at beg of next 2 rows ...  80 (88-96-106-114-122) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then every alt row until 74 (78-82-90-94-98) sts rem.

Work 13 (9-5-5-5-5) rows stripe patt.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then every 4th row until 58 (60-62-72-74-80) sts rem.

 

Sizes L and XXL Only: then in every alt row until (68-76) sts rem.

Work 1 row.

 

Shape Back Neck:

Next row: [K2tog] 0 (0-0-1-1-1) time/s, patt 19 (19-19-19-20-20), turn.

Cont on these 19 (19-19-19-20-20) sts.

Dec one st at each end of every row until 9 (9-9-10-11-11) sts rem.

Work 1 row.

 

Shape Shoulder:

Cast off 5 sts at begof next row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 4 (4-4-5-6-6) sts.

Slip next 20 (22-24-26-30-32) sts onto a stitch holder.

With right side facing, join appropriate coloured yarn to rem sts, patt to last 0 (0-0-2-2-2) sts, [K2tog] 0 (0-0-1-1-1) time/s.

Dec one st at each end of every alt row until 9 (9-9-10-11-11) sts rem.

Work 2 rows.

 

Shape Shoulder:

Work as for other shoulder shaping.

 

FRONT

Using a pair of 3.25mm needles and C1, cast on 108 (120-132-142-154-166) sts.

Knit 6 rows garter st, first row is wrong side.

7th row: K54 (60-66-71-77-83), place maker, knit to end.

Work as for Back from ** to **.

Cont in stripe patt without shapping until work measures approx 36cm from beg, ending with same patt row as for Back to beg of armhole shaping.

 

Shape Armholes:

Keeping stripe patt correct, cast off 4 (6-8-8-10-12) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 80 (88-96-106-114-122) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then every alt row until 74 (78-82-90-94-98) sts rem.

Work 11 (7-3-3-3-3) rows stripe patt.

 

Shape Neck:

Next row: Patt 34 (36-38-42-44-46), turn.

Cont on these 34 (36-38-42-44-46) sts.

Dec one st at armhole edge in 2nd row, then every 4th row 8 (9-10-8-9-8) times, then every alt row 4 (4-4-8-6-8) times, AT SAME TIME, dec one st at neck edge in 2nd row, then every 4th row 9 (10-11-10-8-7) times, then every alt row 2 (2-2-4-8-10) times ... 9 (9-9-10-11-11) sts.

Work 1 row.

 

Shape Shoulder:

Cast off 5 sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 4 (4-4-5-6-6) sts.

Slip next 6 sts onto a stitch holder.

With a right side facing, join appropriate coloured yarn to rem sts and patt to end.

Dec on st at armhole edge in 2nd row, then every 4th row 8 (9-10-8-9-8) times, AT SAME TIME, dec one st at neck edge in 2nd row, then every 4th row 9 (10-11-10-8-7) times, then every alt row 2 (2-2-4-8-10) times ... 9 (9-9-10-11-11) sts.

Work 2 rows.

 

Shape Shoulder:

Work as for other shoulder shaping.

 

I-CORD NECKBAND

Join right shoulder seam.

With right side facing, using 3.25mm circular needle and C1, beg at left shoulder seam and knit up 33 (36-39-39-39-39) sts along left front neck, knit across sts from Front stitch holder, knit up 33 (36-39-39-39-39) sts along right front neck, knit up 9 sts along right back neck, knit across sts from Back stitch holder, then knit up 9 sts along left back neck ... 110 (118-126-128-132-134) sts.

**** Break off yarn.

Using a pair of 3,25 needles and C1, cast on 3 sts.

With right side facing, slide these 3 sts onto circular needle at the end where sts were first picked up.

*** 1st row: K2, K2tog tbl [this is knitting the first 2 i-cord sts then knitting the 3rd i-cord st tog with a neck edge st].

Rep from *** to end of sts.

Next row: Slide 3 sts on right-hand needle back onto the circular needle, K1, K2tog, pass the K1 st over and fasten off.

 

I-CORD ARMHOLE BANDS

Join left shoulder and I-Cord Neckband seam.

With right side facing, using 3.25 circular needle and C1, knit up 100 (114-126-130-142-152) sts along armhole edge.

Work as for I-Cord neckband from **** to end.

 

FINISHING

Join side and I-Cord Armhole Band seams, noting that the Back is approx 4cm longer than the front and leaving lower Back edge unsewn. Sew in all ends.
