A pair of 4.50mm knitting needles for Style A only.

A 4.00mm circular knitting needle, 80cm or longer.

Wool needle for sewing up.

STYLE A - FAIRISLE JACKET

BACK

Using a pair of 4.00mm needles and MC, cast on 115 (127-139-151-163) sts.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Work a further 18 rows rib.

** Work in stocking st until work measures 40cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

 

Beg Fairisle Patt 1:

Using CC, work 2 rows stocking st.

3rd row: Using 4.50mm needles, K1 CC, * K2 CC, K1 MC, K3 CC, rep from * to end.

4th row: P1 CC, * P1 CC, P3 MC, P2 CC, rep from * to end.

5th row: K1 CC, * K5 MC, K1 CC, rep from * to end.

FRONT BAND AND SHAWL COLLAR

Using 4.00mm circular needle and MC, cast on 331 (337-343-349-355) sts.

Note: A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work backwards and forwards in rows, not rounds.

Work 6 rows rib.

7th row: Rib 3, [yrn, rib 2tog, rib 18] 5 times, yrn, rib 2tog, rib to end … 6 buttonholes.

Work 5 rows rib.

Cont in rib and cast off 107 (109-111-113-115) sts at beg of next 2 rows … 117 (119-121-123-125) sts.

Cast off one st at beg of every row until 81 (83-85-87-89) sts rem.

Next row: Cast off one st, rib 32 (33-34-35-36), [sl 1, rib 2tog, psso, rib 3] 3 times, rib to end … 74 (76-78-80-82) sts.

Cast off one st at beg of every row until 35 (37-39-41-43) sts rem.

Cast off.

 

FINISHING

Join shoulder, side and Sleeve seams. Sew in Sleeves. Using a flat seam, sew shaped edge of Front Band And Shawl Collar in position placing buttonholes to Left Front. Sew on buttons. Sew in all ends.

 

STYLE B - ONE COLOUR JACKET

Work as for Style A, using 4.00mm needles and MC throughout, and working fairisle rows as plain stocking st.
