Work in 1/1 rib as for Back until work measures 4-4-5-5-5 cm (11⁄2-11⁄2-2-2-2 in) [14-14-18-18- 18 rows] total, but on the final row for sizes 6-8- 10 yrs only inc 1 st (= 43-46-48-50-53 sts).
Change to 3.5 mm needles, starting with a knit row cont in St st for 8 rows.
Next row (RS – inc): k2, inc 1, k to last 2 sts, inc 1, k2.
Rep this inc on every foll 8th row 6-7-9-12-13 more times, then on every foll 6th-6th-6th-0-0 row 3-3-2-0-0 times.
Cont on the 63-68-72-76-81 sts obtained until work measures 31-34-38-42-45 cm (12-131⁄4-15- 161⁄2-173⁄4 in) [96-104-118-130-138 rows] total.

Top of sleeve:
Leave the sts on a spare needle.


NECKBAND:
Using 3.0 mm needles & col C, CO 97-101- 105-113-117 sts. Work in 1/1 rib for 3 cm (1 in) [10 rows], then leave the sts on a spare needle.


FINISHING:
Join the shoulders.
Using back stitch graft the neckband (see Knitting: Stitches/Techniques/Tips) around the neck, then join the short seams.
Using back stitch graft the tops of the sleeves into the armholes either side of the shoulder seam and in between the stitch markers.
Sew sleeve & side seams. Secure & weave in all ends.
