Row 1 (rS): Col A: k. row 2: Col A: p.
Row 3 & 4: Col B: k2, slip st, *k1, slip st* rep from *to* ending with k2.
After Row 4 rep from Row 1.
1/1 RIB, using 3.0 mm needles.

 

TENSION/GAUGE
To achieve a good result it is essential to make a tension square (see Check Your Tension instruction at beginning of book).
22 sts & 40 rows over 2 Colour Pattern St using 3.5 mm needles = 10 cm (4 in) square.

 

TO MAKE
BACK
:

Using 3.5 mm needles & col B CO 103-111-121- 131-143 sts. Work in Patt Rib & Bicolour Patt St following Chart no. 1 until work measures 22 cm (83⁄4 in) [86 rows] total.
Change to 3.0 mm needles & using col B work in 1/1 rib for 5 cm (2 in) [16 rows].
Change to 3.5 mm needles & work in Bicolour Patt St & Patt Rib following Chart no. 2 for 15 cm (6 in) [60 rows], then cont with Bicolour Patt St.

 

ARMHOLES:
When work measures 52-53-53-54-55 cm (201⁄2- 21-21-211⁄4-213⁄4 in) [202-206-206-210-214 rows] total cast off at the beg of every row as foll: 3 sts 2-2-2-2-4 times, 2 sts 2-2-2-4-4 times, 1 st 6-8- 10-12-14 times.
Continue on the rem 87-93-101-105-109 sts until work measures 71-73-75-77-79 cm (28-283⁄4-291⁄2- 301⁄2-31 in) [278-286-294-302-310 rows] total.

 

SHOULDERS & NECK:
Cast off 6-7-7-8-8 sts, work 25-26-29-29-30 sts, cast off the central 25-27-29-31-33 sts for the neck, work rem 31-33-36-37-38 sts. Each side will now be completed separately.
Next row (WS): Cast off 6-7-7-8-8 sts, work to central cast off sts and put rem sts on a stitch holder.
Next row (RS): Cast off 3 sts at neck edge, work to end.
Next row (WS): Cast off 6-7-8-8-8 sts, work to end.
Next row (RS): Cast off 2 sts at neck edge, work to end.
Next row (WS): Cast off 7-7-8-8-8 sts. Work 1 row straight.

Next row (RS): Work 37-39-42-43-44 sts, cast off the central 13-15-17-19-21 sts, work to end. 
Next row (WS): Work to cast off sts, put rem sts on a stitch holder. Work will now be completed in 2 sections. 
Cont to cast off at the beg of every RS row as foll: 3 sts once, 2 sts once, 1 st 3 times, then 1 st on every foll 4th row 3 times. 
Cont on the rem 26-28-31-32-33 sts until work measures 71-73-75-77-79 cm (28-283⁄4-291⁄2- 301⁄2-31 in) [278-286-294-302-310 rows] total.

 

SHOULDER:
Cast off at the beg of every WS row as foll: 6-7- 7-8-8 sts 2-4-1-4-3 times, 7-0-8-0-9 sts 2-0-3-0- 1 times.
With WS of work facing rejoin yarn to rem sts and work other side of neck in the same way reversing all shaping’s.

 

 

 

SLEEVES:
Using 3.5 mm needles & col B CO 49-51-53-55- 57 sts. Work in Patt Rib & Bicolour Patt St following Chart no. 3, after the 86th row of Chart cont to work in Bicolour Patt St.
At the same time, when work measures 5 cm (2 in) [18 rows] total work next row as foll.
Next row (RS – inc): k1, inc 1, work to last st, inc 1, k1.
Rep this inc on every foll 12th-12th-10th-8th-8th row 7-5-11-19-14 times, then on every foll 10th- 10th-8th-0-6th row 6-9-5-0-7 times.
Cont on the 77-81-87-95-101 sts obtained until work measures 44-45-45-46-46 cm (171⁄2-173⁄4- 173⁄4-18-18 in) [174-178-178-182-182 rows] total.

 

TOP OF SLEEVE:

 

Cast off at the beg of every row as foll: 3 sts twice, 2 sts 2-2-2-8-10 times. 67-71-77-73-75 sts rem.
Then *cast off 1 st at beg of next 6-4-4-4-4 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows* rep from *to* another 4-6-7-4-5 times. 17-15-13-33-27 sts rem.
Cast off 1 st at beg of next 4-2-0-4-2 rows, then 0-0-0-2-2 sts at beg of next 0-0-0-8-6 rows.
Cast off rem 13 sts.

 

 

NECKBAND:
Using 3.5 mm needles & col A CO 171-175-179- 183-187 sts. Work in Bicolour Patt St until work measures 28 cm (11 in) [112 rows] total, then leave on spare needle.

 

 

TO MAKE UP:
Join shoulder seams.
Graft the WS of the collar around the neck edge (see Grafting a Border instructions). Then join the short edges of collar (the seam will be visible on the WS of the neckband).
Sew the top of the sleeves into the armholes.
Sew side & sleeve seams.

Secure & weave in all ends.
