2.50mm and 3.00mm knitting needles

STITCHES USED
1/1 rib, using 2.5 mm needles.
Stocking Stitch (St st), using 3.0 mm needles.
Stripes: Work 13 rows Col B, 13 rows Col A. Rep these 26 rows.

TENSION/GAUGE
To achieve a good result it is essential to make a tension square (see “Check Your Tension” instructions at beginning of book).
26 sts & 37 rows over St st using 3.0 mm needles = 10 cm (4 in) square.

 

TO MAKE

BACK:
Using Col A & 2.5 mm needles CO 95-105-115- 129 sts.
row 1 (rS): *k1, p1* rep from *to* ending with k1. row 2: *p1, k1* rep from *to* ending with p1.
These 2 rows form 1/1 rib, cont as est until work measures 3.5 cm (11⁄2 in) [14 rows] total but for sizesS,M&Linc1stonthefinalrow(=96-106- 116-129 sts).
Change to 3.0 mm needles & starting with a knit row & col B cont in striped St st until work measures 7.5 cm (3 in) [28 rows] total.
Next row (RS – inc): k2, inc 1, work to last 2 sts, inc 1, k2.
Rep this inc on every foll 14th row 4 more times.
Then cont on the 106-116-126-139 sts obtained until work measures 25-26-26- 27 cm (93⁄4-101⁄4-101⁄4-101⁄2 in) [94-98- 98-100 rows] total.

ARMHOLES
Cast off at the beg of every row a4s8 foll: 3 sts 2-2-2-4 times, 2 sts 4 time5s0, 1 st 6-6-8-8 times. Then *work 2 rows straight, cast off 1 st at beg of next 2 rows* rep from *to* 1-2-2-3 more times.
Cont on the rem 82-90-98-103 sts until work measures 42-44-46-48 cm (161⁄2-171⁄4-18-183⁄4 in) [156-164-172- 178 rows] total.

SHOULDERS & NECK
Cast off 4-4-5-5 sts, work 22-25-26-27 sts, cast off the central 30-32-36-39 sts for the neck, work rem 26-29-31-32 sts. Each side will now be completed separately.
Next row (WS): Cast off 4-4-5-5 sts, work to central cast off sts and put rem sts on a stitch holder.
next row (rS): Cast off 3 sts at neck edge, work to end.
Next row (WS): Cast off 4-4-5-5 sts, work to end. next row (rS): Cast off 2 sts at neck edge, work to end.
next row (WS): Cast off 4-5-5-5 sts, work to end.
Next row (RS):
Cast off 1 st at neck edge, work to end.
Next row (WS):

Worked in 2 sections.

PART 1
Using col A & 2.5 mm needles CO 101-111-121- 135 sts. Work in stripes following the Chart for size being made.

PART 2
Using col A & 2.5 mm needles CO 65-73-79-89 sts. Work in stripes following the Chart for size being made.

 

NECKBAND:
Using col A & 2.5 mm needles CO 149-155-161- 165 sts. Work in 1/1 rib for 6 rows then leave on a spare needle.

 

ARMHOLE BORDERS (2):
Using col A & 2.5 mm needles CO 127-135-149- 161 sts. Work in 1/1 rib for 6 rows then leave on a spare needle.

 

FINISHING:
Following the diagram for the WS of Front, place the RS of the 2nd section of the Front against the WS of the 1st section, starting 36-38-42-46 sts in from the edge. Then join the 2 sections (= green line on diagram).
Join shoulder seams.
Graft the neckband around neck edge using back stitch (see “Knitting: Stitches/Techniques/Tips”).
Using back stitch graft the armhole borders around each armhole.
Sew the side seams of the top inserting the 1/1 rib of the 1st section into the seam.  Secure & weave in all ends.
