Next row (RS – inc): Rib 9, m1 (by placing the RH needle under the horizontal strand that lies between the left & right needle, place this st on the LH needle & knit or purl through back of st), rib to end of row.
Taking the increased sts into the rib patt, rep the inc row on every RS row 39 more times.

Rep from * to * 11-11-12-12-13 more times. Leave the sts on a spare needle.

 

FINISHING:
Join the shoulder seams.
Place the needles holding Border No. 1 & Border No. 2 together (RS of collar together) and using a 3rd needle cast-off together on the WS in chain st (see "Knitting: Stitches/Techniques/Tips"), when there are 22 sts remaining on the LH needles, cast off on the RS of work.
Stitch the border on the WS along each front edge and around the back neck.

POCKETS & EPAULETTES:
Cut the pieces of fabric to size following the diagrams. Using the sewing thread for the seams, work in back-stitch or with a sewing machine.

Following diagram no. 1 make the pocket for the left sleeve.

Following diagram no. 2 make the epaulettes.
Following diagram no. 3 make 1 flap & 1 pocket for each Front.
Sew the tops of the sleeves into the armholes.
Sew the sleeve & side seams of the jacket.
Sew 8 buttons onto the Left Front.
At the end of each shoulder, sew 1 button onto each epaulette, stitching through all the layers.
Secure & weave in all ends.
