A pair of 10.00mm knitting needles.

 

ABBREVIATIONS
K1d = knit into stitch below current stitch on needle & remove both sts from the LH needle.

 

 

STITCHES USED 
This pattern is made using 2 strands of yarn throughout. 
English Rib, using 10 mm needles. Over an odd number of sts. 
Row 1 (RS): k.

Row 2: k1d *k1, k1d* rep from *to*. 
Row 3: k1, *k1d, k1* rep from *to*. After Row 3 rep from Row 2.

 

TENSION/GAUGE
To achieve a good result it is essential to make a tension square (see Check Your Tension instructions at beginning of book).
7 sts & 16 rows over English Rib using 10 mm needles = 10 cm (4 in) square.

 


TO MAKE

 

BACK:
Using a double strand of yarn CO 31-33-35-41 sts. Work in English Rib until work measures 39-40-40- 41 cm (151⁄2-153⁄4-153⁄4-16 in) [62-64-64-66 rows] total.

 

Armholes:
Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work 4-4-4- 2 rows straight.
Next row (RS – dec): k1, k1d, k3tog, work to last 5 sts, k3tog, k1d, k1.
Rep this dec on foll 4th row for Size XL only.
Cont on the rem 23-25-27-29 sts until work measures 55-57-59-61 cm ( 213⁄4-221⁄2-231⁄4-24 in) [88-92-94-98 rows] total.

 

Neck & Shoulders:

Work 7 sts, cast off the foll 9-11-13-15 sts for neck, then work to end.

Then, for the shoulders, leave the rem 7 sts at each side on spare needles.

 

 

 

FRONT:
Start as for Back working armhole at same height.

 

NECK:
When work measures 48-50-52-54 cm (19-193⁄4- 201⁄2-211⁄4 in) [76-80-82-86 rows] total on next RS row: Work 9-11-11-11 sts, cast off the central 5-3- 5-7 sts, work to end.
Next row (WS): Work to cast off sts & put rem sts on a stitch holder. Work will now be completed in 2 sections. Work 2 rows straight.
Next row (RS): k2, k3tog, work to end. Rep this dec on foll 0-4th-4th-4th row 0-1-1-1 times.

 

SHOULDER:
Cont on the rem 7 sts until work measures 55- 57-59-61 cm (213⁄4-221⁄2-231⁄4-24 in) [88-92-94- 98 rows] total then leave on a spare needle.
With WS facing pick up sts left on stitch holder & work 3 rows straight.
Next row (RS): Work to last 5 sts, k3tog, k2. Rep this dec on foll 0-4th-4th-4th row 0-1-1-1 times.
Cont on the rem 7 sts until work measures 55- 57-59-61 cm (213⁄4-221⁄2-231⁄4-24 in) [88-92-94- 98 rows] total then leave on a spare needle.

 

 

 

SLEEVES:
Using a double strand of yarn CO 15-17-15-17 sts. Work in English Rib until work measures 9 cm (31⁄2 in) [14 rows] total.
Next row (RS - inc): k1, inc 1, work to last st, inc 1, k1. Rep this inc on every foll 14th-14th-10th- 10th row 3-3-5-5 times.
Cont on the 23-25-27-29 sts obtained until work measures 46 cm (18 in) [74 rows] total.

 

Top of sleeve:
Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then work 3 rows straight.
Next row (RS – dec): work 2 sts, k3tog, work to last 5 sts, k3tog, work 2 sts.
Rep this dec on every foll 4th-6th-4th-6th row 2-1- 3-1 times, then on every foll 0-4th-0-4th row 0-1- 0-2 times.
Work 3 rows on the rem 7-9-7-9 sts then cast off.

 

 

 

FINISHING:
Join the shoulder seam using a chain stitch seam on the WS (see instruction pages).


Sew the top of the sleeves into the armhole edges.
Sew side & sleeve seams.
Secure & weave in all ends.
