These teeny little santa hats have got to be the cutest thing ever. They take no time at all to knit, and are just the right size to pop on the end of a wine bottle or tie to a home baked treat.

Circumference at base (approx) cm 11

Yarn Required

Lincraft Cosy Wool 8ply, 100g balls

Superwash 8ply or DK 8ply

1st Colour (C1 – white) small amount

2nd Colour (C2 – red) small amount


A pair of 4.00mm knitting needles.

Two 4.00mm double-pointed knitting needles.

Wool needle for sewing up.


22 sts & 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles.

Santa Hat

Using a pair of 4.00mm needles and C1, cast on 25 sts. Knit 4 rows garter st and inc one st in centre of last row … 26 sts. Using C2, work 2 rows stocking st.

3rd row: K2tog, K10, K2tog, K10, K2tog … 23 sts.

4th and alt rows: Purl.

5th row: K2tog, K9, K2tog, K8, K2tog … 20 sts.

7th row: K2tog, K7, K2tog, K7, K2tog … 17 sts.

9th row: K2tog, K6, K2tog, K5, K2tog … 14 sts.

11th row: K2tog, K4, K2tog, K4, K2tog … 11 sts.

13th row: K2tog, K3, K2tog, K2, K2tog … 8 sts.

15th row: K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog … 5 sts.

17th row: K2tog, K1, K2tog … 3 sts.

Beg Hanging Loop:

With right side facing, slip Santa Hat’s 3 sts onto a double-pointed 4.00mm needle.

1st row: Knit. ** Do not turn. Slide sts to other end of needle and K3. Rep from ** until Hanging Loop measures 9cm (or length desired). Cast off.


Join back seam of Hat. Sew cast off edge of Hanging Loop to beg of Hanging Loop. Sew in all ends.
