I think everyone has a fond childhood memory revolving around sock puppets… and thats because they are so much fun! Follow this project to learn how to make a quick and easy DIY sock puppet that your kids will love! They can even have a go making one themselves. Why not make a whole sock puppet family and put on a puppet show for Nan and Pop!
Step 1: Cut out 2 semi-circles of cardboard and tape together loosely with some masking tape.
Step 2: Cut out 2 squares of wadding then glue these in half.
Step 3: Glue the wadding to your cardboard circle. Then trim around the edges.
Step 4: Turn your sock inside out. Next apply glue to one half of the non-wadding side of your card-board circle. Stick the end of the sock to the lower half of the cardboard. Once dry turn your sock the right way in.
Step 5: Now its time to give your puppet a face! Cut out a piece of felt the same size as your cardboard circle. Glue this felt inside the mouth of the sock puppet.
Step 6: Cut out piece of felt in the shape of a tongue. Then glue on top of red felt.
Step 7: Cut out 2 small felt dots. Stick these to your pom poms to make eyes for your sock puppet. Glue the eyes on top of your sock puppets head.
Step 8: Use some yarn to make some whiskers for your puppet. Simply cut 2 10cm pieces of yarn and tie a knot in the middle. Then glue onto your sock puppet.
Step 9: Glue on a pom pom nose.
Step 10: Now your puppet needs some ears! Cut out 2 ears from some felt. Then cut out 2 slightly smaller ears. Glue your smaller ears onto the larger ones. Then Glue the ears onto your sock puppet just behind the eyes.
And you are done! Your very own DIY sock puppet! Get creative and make as many different sock puppets as your like. You can change colours and even their facial expressions.
