This calendar features small stockings to fill with gifts, notes or sweets. Each stocking is numbered using the embroidery feature on the Singer Futura sewing machine. If you don’t have the Futura you might like to embroider the numbers straight on to the stockings by hand, or even write the numbers neatly using a permanent marker. While we have used a wide variety of fabrics, you can use just a few patterned or plain fabrics if you would rather. For this reason, we list the fabric sizes needed for each piece, and you should do your own estimations for your own project.

Make the basecloth by sewing the two large rectangles right side together, and leaving a hole for turning.

Hem the sides of the top border piece and sew it to the top of the basecloth to make a pocket for your rod to slip through. Cut 50 stockings using the template below, and sew them right sides together – leaving the top edge open.

Turn right side out, press flat, and turn the top edge in to create a hem. Hand sew your pre-prepared embroidered numbers onto each stocking, and pin each stocking to the basecloth.

We made 4 rows of 6 stockings with the last stocking (no. 25) on its own at the bottom. You could just as easily do 5 rows of 5.

Sew the stockings to the basecloth at the top sides of each stocking only, allowing the bottom part to hang freely.

Sew Jingle bells below the top rail, and at the bottom of the basecloth.

Insert a rod, and attach a hanging cord.
