Zweigart Pre-cut, 14 count Aida - 36cm x 48cm - red  Sullivan embroidery hoop - 10 in / 25cm  Dressmaker pencil  Crochet and knit cotton - white  Crochet hook 2.0mm  DMC embroidery thread - white 3865  Embroidery needle  Scissors  Thread / needle  Sullivans white felt  Sticky tape  Template

Step 1: Secure the Aida cloth in the embroidery hoop. Unscrew embroidery hoop and separate. Lay the inner hoop on table. Lay Aida cloth on top. Place outer hoop on top, push the hoops together, ensuring cloth is taut [by pulling the cloth]. Secure by screwing the hoop as tight as needed.

Step 2: Cut out template and position sewing notions on cloth in desired position.

Step 3: Using a dressmaker pencil transfer the template onto the cloth.

Step 4: Crochet a long chain – 200 chain to start – do not fasten.

Step 5: Following the outline transferred place the crochet chain on the cloth and sew chain in place with embroidery thread.

Step 6: Continue sewing crochet chain.

Step 7: Follow curves and crochet additional chains if needed to ensure one continuous piece is sewn.

Step 8: Crochet shorter chains for needle and inner circle/oval of scissors handle etc. Sew in ends of crochet cotton to back of cloth.

Step 9: Using back stitch embroider the ‘thread’ through the ‘needle’.

Step 10: Using long straight stitches embroider the thread on the bobbin.

Step 11: Trim excess Aida cloth on the reverse side – leaving 2.5 cm [1in] seam. Using thread hand sew the seam – working from one point to the opposite and working around the hoop.

Step 12: Glue felt to cover back with PVA glue.

Step 13: Trim excess felt. Tape points of octagon to hoop until glue dies. Remove sticky tape.
