  • Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle  

GAUGE
15 sts + 9 1/2 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Dc/Hdc Rows pattern.

STITCH EXPLANATIONS
dc2tog (double crochet 2 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.
hdc-blo (half double crochet in back loop only) Yarn over, insert hook in back loop only of indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Dc/Hdc Rows Pattern
Row 1 (WS): Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc-blo in first 8 sts, hdc in each st to last 8 sts, hdc-blo in next 7 sts, hdc in last st.
Rows 2-6: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc-blo in first 8 sts, dc in each st to last 8 sts, hdc-blo in next 7 sts, hdc in last st. Rep Rows 1-6 for Dc/Hdc Rows pattern.

NOTES
1. Front and Back are worked separately, then hood is worked from stitches picked up around the neck edge of the Poncho.

2. On Back and Front, a strip of rib is worked first, then stitches are picked up along one long side of the rib to work the body.

BACK 
Lower Ribbing
Ch 10.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) and in each ch across – you will have 8 hdc in this row.
Rows 2-50 (55, 60): Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc-blo in first 7 sts, hdc in last st.
Do not fasten off. 

Body
Set Up Row (RS): Ch 1, do not turn, work 76 (84, 92) sc evenly spaced along long edge of ribbing.
Rows 1-25 (31, 37): Beg with Row 1 of pattern, work in Dc/Hdc Rows pattern.
Fasten off.

FRONT
Lower Ribbing
Work as for Back Lower Ribbing.

Do not fasten off.

Body
Set Up Row (RS): Ch 1, do not turn, work 76 (84, 92) sc evenly spaced along long edge of ribbing.
Rows 1-13 (19, 25): Beg with Row 1 of pattern, work in Dc/Hdc Rows pattern.
Next 2 Rows: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc-blo in first 8 sts, dc in next 22 (26. 30) sts, hdc in next 16 sts, dc in each st to last 8 sts, hdc-blo in next 7 sts, hdc in last st.

Left Front

FINISHING
Join Shoulders

Hold Back and Front with RS together and sts matching. From WS, working through both thicknesses and in back loops only, join yarn with sl st in first st at one top corner, sl st in next 23 (25, 27) sts to join the shoulder.
Fasten off.
Rep to join the second shoulder, leaving 14 (16, 18) sts unworked along each front neck edge and 28 (32, 36) sts unworked along back neck edge.

Hood
Row 1 (RS): From RS, draw up a loop at beg of right front neck edge, ch 2 (does not count as a st), working along right front neck edge, hdc-blo in first 8 sts, dc in next 6 (8, 10) sts, 2 dc in shoulder seam, dc in each st along back neck edge, 2 dc in shoulder seam, dc in first 6 (8, 10) sts of left front neck edge, hdc-blo in next 7 sts, hdc in last st – 60 (68, 76) sts.
Rows 2-18: Beg with Row 3 of pattern, work in Dc/Hdc Rows pattern for 17 rows.

Fold last row of hood in half with RS together and matching sts. From WS, join top of hood in the same way you joined the shoulders. Fasten off.
