50cm Minky fleece (double this if you are making a different coloured front and back) 80cm Grosgrain ribbon 18cm Velcro Sewing machine Sharp scissors Hot water bottle Newspaper (for drafting pattern)

There are times when nothing beats the comfort of a hot water bottle, and this cosy cover features a Velcro closure, a pretty ribbon, and the softest Minky fleece - which will stretch with the fullness of the bottle. Draft your pattern Lay your hot water bottle on a flat sheet of newspaper, and carefully trace a shape 2cm out around. Use a ruler to straigthen the edges and make sure that your pattern goes straight up at the neck to the funnel. Don't worry about going in at the neck point - you will be bringing that in with a ribbon at the end. Your finished pattern piece should look like the diagram below. This piece will be the front. To make your backs, cut 2 more backs, one for the top, one for the bottom, with an overlap of 8cm (see diagram below). Assembly Sew one piece of Velcro to the right side edges of both back pieces (see diagram) with a zig-zag stitch. Put both pieces of Velcro together, and fold back the back top piece. With right sides facing, pin the back and front pieces together, and sew around all edges, reinforcing the open (Velcro) edges with a few rows of stitching. Make a small nick in each neck edge corner to allow for a smooth finish when turning. Turn right-side out. Sew your grosgrain ribbon onto the back neck and tie into a bow.
