INSTRUCTIONS

DOG COAT (BEG AT NECKBAND)

Using 5.5mm needles and C, cast on 43 (59-69-77) sts. Beg Rib for Collar – 1st row – K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end. Rep last 2 rows until Collar measures 7 (8-8-9) cm from beg. Change to 5mm needles. Cont in rib until Collar measures 12 (14- 14-16) cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec 4 sts evenly across this row… 39 (55-65-73) sts. Change to 5.5mm needles and M. Working in stocking st, inc one st at each end of every row until there are 57 (69- 87-103) sts, then in every foll alt row until there are 59 (77-95-111) sts. Work 1 row.

Beg Leg Openings – Next row – K6 (8-10-12), cast off next 6 (7-8-10) sts, K35 (47-59-67) including st already on right-hand needle after casting off, cast off next 6 (7-8-10) sts, knit to end. Cont on these last 6 (8-10-12) sts. Work 11 (13-15-17) rows. Break off yarn and leave sts on stitch-holder. With wrong side facing, join M to centre 35 (47-59-67) sts. Work 11 (13-15-17) rows. Break off yarn and leave sts on stitch-holder. With wrong side facing, join M to rem 6 (8-10-12) sts.Work 11 (13-15-17) rows. Next row – Working across all sts, K6 (8- 10-12), turn, cast on 6 (7-8-10) sts, turn, knit across centre 35 (47-59-67) sts from stitch-holder, turn, cast on 6 (7-8-10) sts, turn, then knit across rem 6 (8-10-12) sts from stitch-holder … 59 (77-95-111) sts. Cont working across all sts until Coat measures 30 (34-35-39) cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark end of seam. Shape Side Edges – Cast off 7 (9-11-13) sts at beg of next 2 rows … 45 (59-73-85) sts. Dec one st at each end of every row until 35 (49-59-71) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 29 (39-49-59) sts rem. Cont without further shaping until Coat measures 45 (52-54-60) cm from beg or until desired length to base of tail. Leave sts on stitch-holder.

BACK BAND Note – We recommend using mattress stitch to sew up your Coat. If length has been altered, sts in band will also need to be adjusted to fit. When knitting up sts for band, make sure the total number of sts is an even number. Join seam from neck edge to coloured threads, reversing seam on collar for first 7 (8-8-9) cm. With right side facing, using 5mm circular needle, C and beg at seam, knit up 26 (31-32-36) sts evenly along side edge to sts left on stitch-holder, knit across sts on stitch-holder, then knit up 27 (32-33-37) sts evenly along other side edge to seam … 82 (102-114-132) sts. Join to work in rounds. 1st round – * K1, P1, rep from * to end. Rep 1st round 5 times. Cast off loosely in rib.

LEG OPENING BANDS With right side facing, using set of 5mm double-pointed needles and C, knit up 26 (30-34-42) sts evenly around leg opening. Join to work in rounds. Work 6 rounds rib as for Back Band. Cast off loosely in rib.

TO MAKE UP DO NOT PRESS. Fold collar in half onto right side.

TENSION: 17 sts and 23 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 5.5mm needles. To work a tension square, using 5.5mm needles, cast on 25 sts. Work 34 rows stocking st. Cast off loosely. Check your tension carefully. If less sts to 10cm use smaller needles, if more sts use larger needles.
