INSTRUCTIONS

PONCHO (BEG AT NECK EDGE)

Using 5.5mm hook and M, make 72 (80) ch and join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.

1st round – 3ch, miss 1ch, * 1htr in next ch, 1ch, miss 1ch, rep from * to end, sl st in 2nd of 3ch at beg, sl st in next ch sp. 2nd round – 3ch, (1tr, 1ch, 2tr) in same sp as last sl st, 1ch, * (cluster, 1ch) 8 (9) times, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) in next ch sp, 1ch, rep from * twice, (cluster, 1ch) 8 (9) times, sl st in 3rd ch at beg, sl st in next tr, sl st in next ch sp. 3rd round – 3ch, (2tr, 1ch, 3tr) in same sp as last sl st, 1ch, * (cluster, 1ch) 9 (10) times, (3tr, 1ch, 3tr) in next ch sp, 1ch, rep from * twice, (cluster, 1ch) 9 (10) times, sl st in 3rd ch at beg, sl st in each of next 2tr, sl st in next ch sp. 4th round – 3ch, (2tr, 1ch, 3tr) in same sp as last sl st, 1ch, * (cluster, 1ch) 10 (11) times, (3tr, 1ch, 3tr) in next ch sp, 1ch, rep from * twice, (cluster, 1ch) 10 (11) times, sl st in 3rd ch at beg, sl st in each of next 2tr, sl st in next ch sp.

Cont inc in this manner, working one more cluster between each (3tr, 1ch, 3tr) corner group in every round, until there are 18 (37) clusters between each corner group … 12 (30) rounds in all. Fasten off. Neck Edging – With right side facing, using 5.5mm hook and M, work 3 rounds dc evenly around neck edge, inc or dec as necessary to keep work flat. Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP DO NOT PRESS. Wind C around 18cm piece of cardboard and cut along one edge. Fold 4 strands in half and draw loop through ch sp at lower edge, draw ends through loop and pull to tighten. Repeat in each ch sp around lower edge. Trim evenly.

TENSION: 7 clusters and 7 rows to 10cm over patt, using 5.5mm hook. To work a tension square, using 5.5mm hook, make 22ch. 1st row – Miss 3ch, 1tr in next ch, * 1ch, miss 1ch, 1tr in next ch, rep from * to end. 2nd row – 3ch, cluster, * 1ch, cluster, rep from * to end … 10 clusters. Rep last row 8 times. Fasten off. Check your tension carefully. If less clusters to 10cm use a smaller hook, if more clusters use a larger hook.
