3.5m of 150cm wide gingham fabric or quantity required for size of table 1.5m of gingham fabric for 8 serviettes & basket liner Sewing machine & matching thread Tape measure 1.5m of 1cm wide elastic Cane basket Iron

Basket liner: Measure the base of your basket and cut a piece of fabric 1cm wider (to allow for seam) all around. Measure around the outside of the picnic basket and the depth. Cut two pieces of fabric the depth plus 15cm and half the circumference plus 2cm (to allow for a seam allowance on each side). Sew these two pieces together, up to the point of the depth to allow for an opening for the handles and sew the base piece all around. You should have a seam up each side where the handles are. Fold the edge over 1cm then again 2cm to make a casing for the elastic on both halves. Thread elastic through each half and sew securely to each end. Make two ties by cutting a piece of fabric 5cm wide by 1.5m long, fold in half and sewdown one side. Turn this right side out and cut into 4 equal lengths and press. Turn the ends in on the tube and sew a tie to each end of the elastic. Place inside the basket and tie the ends together under the handle. Table cloth: Measure your table across the top in both directions. Add an extra 60cm to allow for an overhang of approximately 28cm on all sides. Fold over the hem 1cm, press, then fold over again 1cm. Press and pin. Stitch all the way around the hem using a sewing machine and matching thread. Serviettes: Cut fabric into a 45cm square for each serviette. Fold over the sides 1cm and press. Fold over 1cm again, press again and pin. Stitch all the way around the hem using a sewing machine and matching thread.
